Dairy/Egg free Chili Recipe

Brrr! I don't know how cold it is where you are but it is down right freezing here today! Thanks goodness for fireplaces(mine is gas logs) and some great chili to keep us warm! That's what's on the dairy/egg free menu for dinner tonight. Nothing like a great bowl of chili to warm you up! This is a recipe I modified from a cookbook my mom gave me called Cooking 101 by Sidney Brockman Carlisle. It's quick, easy and I get lots of compliments on it.

2 lbs ground beef (you can substitute one can of red kidney beans for 1 1b. of ground beef)
3 packets McCormicks mild chili mix (Always check the ingredients, as they can change!)
1/2 chopped onion
2(8oz.) cans of tomato sauce
1 (15 oz.) can of stewed tomatoes
1/2 jar of mild picante sauce (small jar)
2 cups of water

Brown, ground beef and onion until no longer pink. Drain off grease. Add everything else, mix thoroughly and let simmer on your stovetop, on low, for approximately 45 minutes. 4 Tbsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. seasoned salt (I like Mrs. Dash)
4 tsp cumin
2 tsp. oregano
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
